Steve Metcalf, founder of Dealer Alternative
Dealer Alternative began as Hond-A-Motive, founded by Steven Metcalf in April 1997. Steve’s passion for working on Hondas and Acuras inspired him to open his own shop, dedicated to providing expert service for those vehicles.
In May 1997, Steve hired his first employee, George Bean. George started as a mechanic, learning the ins and outs of the trade directly from Steve. Over time, their partnership grew stronger, and Steve eventually promoted George to General Manager. Together, they built a shop based on trust, quality, and a family-like atmosphere — values that still define Dealer Alternative today. In fact, many of the original customers from 1997 continue to bring their vehicles to the shop.
After decades of dedication, Steve decided to retire and spend more time with his wife. In January 2023, he sold Dealer Alternative, Inc. to George Bean and his wife, Jennifer. Married for over 25 years, George and Jennifer have two children and several grandchildren. When they took over, one of their top priorities was to ensure job security for the existing staff — employees they truly consider family.
Alongside Dealer Alternative, George was also offered the opportunity to acquire two more of Steve’s shops: Pratt Automotive in Benbrook and Lexutech in Fort Worth. With the same commitment to supporting staff, George and Jennifer made the decision to purchase all three locations at once, ensuring continuity and stability for the entire team.
George believes in maintaining an open-door policy with both employees and customers, fostering a supportive environment where concerns are addressed directly and respectfully. Most team members across all three shops have deep roots in the automotive industry — some with over 40 years of hands-on experience. This level of expertise, combined with mutual respect and integrity, is the foundation of their ongoing success.
To strengthen the leadership team, George promoted Tammy Rickert to General Manager. Tammy has been with Dealer Alternative for over 17 years, previously serving as a highly respected service advisor. Her deep knowledge and unwavering commitment to both employees and customers make her an invaluable part of the Dealer Alternative family.
